Dichroic which means appearing to change colour and is used to describe something that appears to be a different colour when viewed along a different axis.This method of creating beautiful glass dates back to the early 1950’s & 1960’s when NASA used it for optical filters and as a shield against cosmic radiation. Dichroic glass has multi layers of coloured coating and can have as many as 30 layers, yet still remain 35millionths of an inch. The gorgeous multi coloured effect is the result of complex light interactions called ‘thin film physics’. Well that’s the science bit all we really need to know is that it looks GREAT!!
